Last year, Epic games released a new game based on the Unreal game engine called Infinity Blade. At the time, the game was mostly just a proof of concept to show what the iPhone and other iOS devices were capable of doing. This hasn't stopped Epic from updating the game and expanding it making it quite possibly the best game available for the platform.
The most recent update has introduced the ability to play with other players in an arena mode where one player takes the role of the hero, the other of a monster. The fluidity and finish that has been added to this mode is absolutely amazing. During my time playing I never ran into a problem with the gameplay, only with my own skills not being up to par with some of my opponents.
The style of gameplay is very simple to grasp in both the single player and multiplayer versions of the game. You simply swipe the screen to swing your sword, tap the bottom edges of the screen to dodge attacks, and press a button in the centre to use your shield. This interface is very simple, which is important on a device with a smaller screen like the iPhone.

The nice part about multiplayer is that it takes advantage of Apple's Game Center, a great, but under utilized feature of iOS. Game Center allows you to either play against friends, or be matched against a random opponent. This makes it a similar experience to Xbox Live or PSN (Without getting your credit card stolen).
The graphics in the game as most of you have probably heard are phenomenal. It blew me away when I was first playing the game that this is actually on a mobile device, and not a dedicated gaming system. The quality rivals that of the PSP (Playstation Portable) and blows away the Nintendo DS.
If you haven't already picked up this game, now is the perfect time as Epic has reduced the price to just 2.99, well worth it for a game of this quality. It is a universal app which means it works on all of your iOS devices, including the iPad and iPad 2. A recent update even optimized it for the new graphic improvements in the iPad 2.
You can find the game on the AppStore here and once you've downloaded it, make sure to add JonPilon to Game Center for some multiplayer sword fighting!
